TL;DR - Grid Clique was born out of the glory days of Clubhouse, when conversations couldn’t be recorded, and the important conversations we were having were floating off into the ether, never to be heard again. The nuggests of wisdom our interviewees deserved more than that - so we crystalized a few into a blog.
Let’s Rally
Throughout the past half year, we’ve had the honor of interviewing women across the paddock - from media leads, to press officers, strategy-makers and more. But never have we had the opportunity to interview an actual female driver - until now.
High Performance Learner
In Formula 1, the term ‘performance’ is thrown around often - tyre performance, car performance - but what about human performance? That’s where Sacha Smith comes in. Sacha is an Msc student studying the physiological strains of Formula 1, and will be joining the Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains team as an Academy Performance Coach. But as many of these stories go, the journey to get there and to break into the industry (especially as a female) wasn’t easy.
Girl Crew in Effect
We came to know Steph Turner back in February, when she moderated chats for the FIA Girls On Track UK webinars with Formula 1. This was at a time when the few of us (the Women of GP) were just getting to know each other, and now six-ish months later, we were so happy to be able to host Steph in our Women of GP Clubhouse. Full circle moment!
Social Media + Representation in Motorsport
The end of June welcomed ‘National Social Media Day’ - admittedly, not a day we knew existed (or was necessary), but it got us thinking. Social media has truly transformed the way we live - without it, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do here at Women of GP, and maybe the girls from On The Chicane wouldn’t have come to be either.
The Fierce Future-Forward Female
Within the first few minutes of the discussion, we understood that our mandates weren’t too dissimilar - inclusivity, representation, thinking towards the future - and those were only the first laps of this track walk. Jess McFadyen’s story, in our very humble opinion, has not even reached its apex and we’re so enthralled by what she shared.

And who are we? We are women with different and compatible interests in the sport of F1, ranging from the technical, economics, behind the scenes and pageantry. Together, we workshop and discuss topics that would be of interest to our demographic, but at the end of the day we infinitely believe in the representation and amplification of women in all roles of motorsport. That is our ‘why.’
